MONARCH BUTTERFLIES

Monarchs are a beloved and iconic species of butterfly, well known for their epic migrations. Sadly, their numbers have plummeted due to habitat loss and pesticide use.

Growing milkweed is vital to helping Monarchs thrive, as this is the only type of plant they can eat in their caterpillar phase. Adult butterflies feed on the nectar of many varieties of flowers. By cultivating gardens filled with both nectar and host plants we can help sustain these beautiful and important pollinators.

In this gallery you will find images of the various stages of the Monarch’s metamorphosis, from pearlescent eggs to striped caterpillars, jade and gold chrysalises, and finally the magnificent adult butterflies. It is always a joy to admire and photograph Monarchs whenever they grace my garden with their presence.
