As a child I spent countless hours imagining that I could shrink myself down to the size of an insect. I wanted to perceive and explore the world from their miniature perspective.

Macro photography has allowed me to enter that childhood dream world. Through the magic of the macro lens I am able to see eye to eye with beetles and bees, gaze at landscapes of towering petals, and marvel at the exquisite, shimmering scales of a butterfly’s wing. The camera lens has become my portal into the enchanting world of insects.

Insects play a vital role in the intricate web of life. Their work as pollinators provides us with bountiful crops, and they are an essential food source for many different species of animals. Unfortunately, their numbers are declining as a result of human activities such as pesticide use and destruction of natural habitats. Since I have begun photographing them, I have developed a profound love and reverence for these fascinating and often misunderstood creatures.

The more closely I look at these magnificent life forms, the more I want to learn about them. And the more I learn about them, the more I want to protect them. I am dedicated to creating and maintaining a garden ecosystem that supports a diverse population of insects, birds, and animals. As I add various host and nectar plants, I am delighted to see the corresponding pollinators arrive.

All of the photos on this website were taken in this garden, my backyard wonderland. I hope these images will inspire others to plant their own garden ecosystems to help sustain these important and majestic beings.
